Presentation of the CCIs
There are five Chambers of Commerce in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine :
The Chambers of Commerce in Meuse-Rhine are the prime
movers in the field of cross-border cooperation. They share the same
objectives, which are those of encouraging the balanced development of
the economy and of the interests of business in their region.
Although the basis for cooperation was established a long time ago,
the five Chambers of Commerce have given it renewed vigour in the past
decade by signing an official cooperative agreement at the end of 1994.
A joint secretariat for the Meuse-Rhine Chambers has also been
established pursuant to this agreement. This Secretariat is has its
office at the Chamber of Commerce in Maastricht.
Cooperation among the Chambers provides a considerable expansion to the
services and advisory facilities of the individual Chambers, which
directly benefits trade and industry in Meuse-Rhine’s separate regions.
During this period, the Chambers started the development of a structured programme of activities.
Between
1998 and 2001, the Chambers benefited from European support within the
framework of the Interreg II programme; and, it was this programme,
which enabled them to develop a structured programme.
From
October 1, 2002 until October 1 2005, the Chambers have been receiving
European funding in
the framework of the Interreg III programme. This programme was
designed to develop new activities, with a view to improving
integration
among the different regions within Meuse-Rhine.
This website
provides you with all the information necessary for a better
understanding of the Euregional market, as well as all relevant
information on the activities of the Chambers.
These activities serve the following purposes:
1. Promotion of the Euregional economy
A
precondition for a sound economy is an (EU) regional infrastructure
that provides sufficient scope for business and guarantees it market
access. The Chambers cooperate in creating the optimal preconditions
for companies to settle and do business in Meuse-Rhine, on the basis of
a list of priorities for the area’s material infrastructure.
On the 11th of May 2004, the Euregio Chambers presented during a press conference their vision on the development of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine from now till 2015.
2. Euregional commercial information and trade promotion
The
commercial information and trade promotion activities of the Chambers
in the Meuse-Rhine business community improve both the structure of the
economy and its competitiveness. The Chambers of Commerce are the first
point of entry for companies that require commercial and industrial
information. Synergies are achieved by a systematic exchange of this
knowledge and information. The joint activity of the Chambers is
dedicated to making this information available, via this web site, and
other channels including information sessions and joint publications.
3. Euregional trade promotion
The objective of Euregional trade promotion is to assist industry in
Meuse-Rhine in operating independently on a Euregional home market and
in foreign markets. The joint activities of the Chambers include the
organization of partnership meetings, business lunches, trade missions,
one-day visits to fairs and Purchasers Days. More information about
these activities is provided in the on this web site.
